The best part of academia is working with students! I have enjoyed teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in technical areas such as naval architecture, ship dynamics, and statics, as well as courses focused more holistically on engineering workforce preparation. At Mason, I’ve had the honor of working with multiple undergraduate student teams on senior capstone design projects. In 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 teams of students designed and built an electric boat to compete in the American Society of Naval Engineers’ Promoting Electric Propulsion for Small Craft races, ultimately taking second place in the unscrewed vessel category. For the 2021-2022 academic year, teams of students worked to develop platforms for RoboNation’s RobotX competition. More information on that work is here.
